Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you.
I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty
to study mathematics and philosophy.
My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history,
naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture
in order to give their children a right to study painting,
poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.
--John Adams (1735-1826)
A musician must make music, an artist must paint,
a poet must write if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
What one can be, one must be.
--Abraham Maslow
The bad poet is usually unconscious when he ought to be concious,
and concious when he ought to be unconcious.
--T. S. Eliot
Forever and a day, I will keep telling myself; if only
If only, I had not let pride carry me away
If only, I had not let my ego get in the way
If only, I had overcome the fear of giving too much of myself in
If only, I had stopped the self doubts within,
If only, I was able to
I would have told you, how much I need you
I would have told you how much I love you
I would have said to me the world is you
If only, I was able to have done all this, then
I'd be with you, today and everyday
I'd hear your laugh, today and everyday
I'd see the smile in your eyes, today and everyday
I'd hold you in my arms, today and everyday
If only, I was able to

A Candle In The Darkness
By Rob Cochran
August, 2002
The world we live in today is a different place.
There is so much uncertainty and fear.
and the future can sometimes seem obscure and dark.
But a wise person once said, "All the darkness in the universe
can not extinguish the light of a single candle."
May your love for each other
be like a candle in the darkness.
May it illuminate the long night,
and guide you in all that you do.
And may your family and friends
always be gathered around you
to protect it's flame
from the winds of change and adversity.
May the warmth of it's glow
Be reflected in the faces of your children,
so that they may one day carry it
into the future
and light the way
for us all.
Living With Spina Bifida
I grew up with a birth defect known as spina bifida,
a disability that affects my sense of balance, causing
me to walk with a limp. Not only does it affect the function of the legs,
but it also has an impact on the kidneys, causing them to deteriorate.
The disability has had its ups and downs. As a young child,
I can remember the way other children would look at me and
stare because of the way that I walked. There were many times
that my schoolmates would laugh at me and call me names simply
because of their lack of understanding of why I was a little different,
especially back in the mid 70s and early 80s. Children then were just
unwilling to take the time to learn why one of their classmates might walk,
speak or seem noticeably different from themselves.
Now that I am an adult, I have noticed that the stares and names
have begun to fade, and judgments that once were negative have
begun to turn toward acceptance. The signing of the ADA has played
a great part in breaking down some of those barriers that, as a chi
Placing one foot in front of the other, I've climbed to higher lengths.
Reaching beyond my own limitations, to show my inner strength.
No obstacle to hard for this warrior to overcome.
I'm just a man on a mission, to prove my disability hasn't won.
Quote: Hands of time move us foward, never back.
Only Memories frozen in mind, can we reenact.

The Lady
I wonder what she thought
As she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away,
She was forced to watch it all.
Did she long to offer comfort
As her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
High above her head.
She could not shield her eyes
She could not hide her face
She just stared across the water
Keeping Freedom's place.
The smell of smoke and terror
Somehow reduced her size
So small within the harbor
But still we recognized...
How dignified and beautiful
On a day so many died
I wonder what she thought,
And I know she must have cried.
